Cabins
The term “cabins” refers to the low-end version of a “portable building”.
Container
A large cargo-carrying standard-sized unit which can be loaded from one mode of transport to another.
Mobile building
A building which is displaceable: it can be assembled in one place, dismantled when no longer needed, and reassembled later in another place.
Modular construction
A modern method of construction enabling some construction steps to be realized off-site in a factory-controlled environment. The result of this manufacturing process is called a modular building, and is made of several units called modules. These modules are fitted with all equipment (doors, windows, plumbing, electrics, heating, fire safety, internal finishes) before they leave the factory, then delivered to site, where they are quickly assembled onto pre-prepared foundations. Modular construction enables site work and manufacturing to occur concurrently rather than sequentially.
Modular building
A modular building is a building constructed in accordance to the modular construction methods. The structure of a modular building is divided into sections called modules.
Modular building system
A standardised set of modules designed to be compatible, allowing easy stapling and stacking between modules.
Modular complex
A complex modular building, that is to say a large scale building made of various interconnected modules.
Module
A steel-framed box, smallest unit of a modular building.
Off-site construction
In modular construction, the part of the construction process that is made away from the building site, in a factory.
Permanent building
A building which is built to stay in its place. The permanent buildings engineered by Algeco are in fact semi-permanent buildings, that is to say permanent buildings that can be displaced if needed.
Portable building
A mobile building commonly made of a single unit. A portable building can be transported from place to place.
Pre-engineered building
Common expression synonym with “modular building”.
Prefabricated building
Common expression synonym with “modular building”.
Relocatable building
A mobile building commonly made of a single unit. A relocatable building can be relocated to a new location when necessary. The expression “relocatable building” is less frequently used than “portable building”.
Semi-permanent building
A permanent building which can be displaced if needed. Semi-permanent buildings can be seen as building used on a temporary basis for a medium- to long- term requirements.
Site accommodation
A mobile building used on construction site.
Site huts
A portable building used on construction site. The expression “site huts” refers to the low-end version of a “site accommodation”.
Storage container
A container designed for storage. The storage containers engineered by Algeco are anti-vandal secure storage containers, that is to say storage containers designed to meet high security requirements.
Structure
The load-bearing part of a building.
Temporary building
A building used on a temporary basis for a short- to medium- term requirements. The temporary buildings engineered by Algeco meet permanent building standards, guaranteeing quality, durability, and comfort.
